Do Firewalls Protect Against DDoS Attacks? | Arbor Networks

http://pixvid.me/ANFirewallProtectionDDoS Does a firewall provide sufficient protection against a DDoS attack? How do next generation firewalls and enterprise firewalls stack up against the competition? As the complexity, frequency, and volume of Destributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks continue to increase, so must the network protection solutions being deployed to identify and stop these attacks. While next-generation firewalls are certainly a necessary component of a multi-layered network security solution, often times they do not provide enough protection to maintain network security and performance against a modern day cyber attack. As an example, many of the DDoS attacks being engineered today engage with legitimate HTTP protocols in order to easily navigate past the networks first line of defense -- the next-gen firewall.
