Let us go

December 9, 2015 JP Blaho

Advanced threats pose a serious risk to all organizations, and our network operations and security operations teams must be fully armed with security offerings, threat intelligence, and an enabled team of investigators looking for that proverbial needle in a haystack.

The next “carol” in our series takes a look at a “caroler” who has been part of an enterprise organization where an advanced threat attack went unnoticed, and the damage was done.  This lighthearted spin on the Christmas carol “Let it Snow” tells a truth that many will inevitably experience on their own at some point in their career.

Sing along, or – better yet:  send us your own lyrics or chorus to this song!

Let Us Go

Oh, the SIEM UI looked so frightful
The alerts were not insightful
Where the problem was I didn’t know
Let it show, let it show, let it show

It didn’t show signs of slowing
And in fact the risks were growing
Our security was status quo
Where’s the trend, who’s our friend, who’s our foe?

When we finally found the threat
It was there for about five months
And when we completed the audit
Damages were in the millions

So the SecOps team has stopped trying
And my career, will soon be dying
But before this place starts to blow
Let us go, let us go, let us go
